How to Use This Site's Free Tools Together to Build Your Own Plan

Individually, the free tools on this site (the cost calculator, the relocation checklist, the timeline guide) are each useful. Used together in the right order, they become something closer to an actual personalized plan. Here's how I'd recommend combining them.
Start with the cost calculator and city comparison tool, then use the scouting trip planner once you've narrowed things down.
Step 1: Run the Cost Calculator First
Before anything else, get a real number for your target city and lifestyle using the cost calculator. This number anchors every other decision: whether your target residency visa income threshold is realistic for your situation, and whether your target city is actually financially viable for you specifically rather than in the abstract.
Step 2: Use the City Comparison to Confirm or Reconsider
If the calculator's number for your first-choice city gives you pause, the city comparison guide lets you quickly check two or three alternatives side by side on cost, climate, and community before you get emotionally attached to one specific place.
Step 3: Build Your Timeline Backward From Your Move Date
Once you have a target city and a real budget, the relocation timeline post lays out what needs to happen and when, working backward from your move date. This is where document lead times (the FBI background check, apostille processing) actually get scheduled rather than discovered too late.
Step 4: Use the Checklist as Your Working Document
The 180-day relocation checklist is meant to be used, not just read, printed or copied into your own tracking system and checked off as you go. Pair it with your timeline from step three so you know not just what to do but when.
Step 5: Layer In the City-Specific Guide
Once your city is locked in, the dedicated guide for that specific city (if it's one of the cities I've covered in depth) fills in the local detail the general posts can't: specific neighborhoods, specific service providers, specific local quirks.
Step 6: Revisit the Numbers Closer to Your Move
Costs and visa requirements both shift year to year. Rerun the calculator and double-check current visa income thresholds within a month or two of your actual move rather than relying on numbers you researched a year earlier.
When to Skip the DIY Approach Entirely
If working through six different tools and cross-referencing them yourself sounds like more friction than you want to deal with, that's exactly the gap my consulting programs are built to close, someone doing this cross-referencing and personalization work with you directly rather than you piecing it together solo. Both paths get you to the same destination; this one just takes more of your own time and effort.
