From North Carolina to Guanajuato: My Story

In 2017, I made the bold decision to leave the familiarity of where I grew up in North Carolina to go on an adventure and start a new chapter in Guanajuato, Mexico. What initially began as a personal journey of curiosity quickly evolved into something far more profound. I was captivated by the beauty of Guanajuato’s landscapes, the richness of its history, and most of all the warmth of its people. But beyond the surface, living in Mexico allowed me to reconnect with a simpler, more fulfilling way of life.

The change was transformative in ways I hadn’t anticipated. I fell in love with Guanajuato’s colorful streets, the constant hum of life in its plazas, and the incredible food that seemed to embody the spirit of the country. I learned that Mexico is a land of contrasts—where modernity and tradition coexist in a fascinating balance. From bustling cities to quiet, rural villages, the country’s diverse regions offer endless opportunities for exploration and connection.

Over time, I didn’t just live in Mexico—I became a part of it. I formed deep connections with so many Mexican friends and fellow expats, learned to navigate the quirks of daily life, and discovered the joys of living at a slower pace.

As I settled into my new life, I realized how much this experience had changed me. Mexico isn’t just a destination—it’s a feeling, a sense of belonging, and a community that welcomes you with open arms. Mexico became my home.

This journey has taught me the true meaning of home, and it’s a story I feel compelled to share with others.
